About Ann-Maree Whelan
BA (Psych), PGDip (Psych), MCounsPsych, MAPS
I am an experienced psychologist, working from a strengths-based and trauma-informed perspective. I work collaboratively with clients using a wide range of evidence-based treatment approaches tailored to your individual needs.
I bring a warm personal style, and aim to create a safe, non-judgemental and supportive therapeutic space where you can develop insight and create meaningful change in your life and relationships.
My work is significantly based on the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) framework; I also utilise Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Family Systems Therapy, Mindfulness, Solution Focussed Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), where appropriate for your needs.
I have 14 years of experience helping people with anxiety, autism, ADHD, burnout, depression, grief and loss, parenting issues, relationship difficulties, trauma, and other issues. I have spent more than a decade working in university student counselling, as well as in private practice.
I have a particular passion for neurodiversity-affirming practice and LGBTIQ+ inclusion, including supporting those navigating past or current experiences with faith communities.
I have a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology, am a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS), a Fellow of the APS College of Counselling Psychology, an AHPRRA-endorsed Counselling Psychologist, an Associate Member of the Australian ADHD Professionals Association (AADPA) and an Associate Member of the EMDR Association of Australia (EMDRAA) .
I am eligible to provide Medicare services, which means you will be able to get a Medicare rebate with a referral from your GP.
